Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League

This Reporter happened by the Troy Sports Center, recently, to watch the Troy Sting Midget AA practice.

You will recall that this team was the 2007 Michigan State Midget A Champion and went on to take the Runner-Up Spot in the Nationals Tier II 16U at Great Lakes Sports City.

This isn't the first time that Sting MAA Head Coach Fred Costello has put together a Championship Team. His teams have gone to the Big Dance nearly every year since Squirts. And, Coach Costello's players, more often than not, move on from LCAHL to Higher Levels of Competition, which speaks well of his program!

Steven Oleksy, a Costello protégé, is a case in point. Oleksy, who started in LCAHL with the St. Clair Shores 1994 Mite AA Saints, began his association with Coach Costello on the Michigan Jaguars Squirt AA. In 2001, Steven played on Costello's Great Lakes Panthers Bantam AA Team which won the National Championship, in Georgia.

So, it is no surprise that, today, Steven is playing at a higher level. You will now find #22 Oleksy in his second year with Lake Superior State University, playing Defense for the Lakers, on scholarship.
